Habesha in Tech began as a podcast — real conversations with Ethiopian and Eritrean tech professionals about their journeys. Today it's growing into something bigger: a nonprofit community that turns those stories into mentorship, workshops, and real pathways into tech for the next generation.

Our story
From 2021 to 2023, Habesha in Tech ran 33 podcast episodes — long-form “My Tech Journey” interviews, career panels on cloud, data, and Salesforce, and topic episodes on everything from blockchain to investing in Digital Ethiopia. Guests included engineers, founders, and researchers whose stories became a quiet library of possibility for young listeners.
Then the show went dormant. But the questions it was answering never went away: How do I break into tech? What should I study? Who can I ask? Diaspora youth and students in Ethiopia are still asking them every day — often with no one to ask.
So we're back — not just as a podcast, but as a nonprofit community organization. The podcast relaunches as our voice and front door; behind it, a ladder of programs — workshops, office hours, mentorship cohorts — turns listeners into mentored builders, and alumni into the next mentors.

Tef started Habesha in Tech to make the journeys of Habesha technologists visible — because you can't become what you can't see. Through ToR Creative Studio he builds the platforms the community runs on, and through Habesha in Tech he's building the community itself: podcast first, programs next, a movement after that.
